Dean watches the coat float toward him on the troubled water, remembers finding it a few years back, cast off by some hobo just north of Oklahoma City, handing it over to Castiel like it didn’t mean anything. He drags it out of the water, the fabric heavy and dripping and still coated in the black tar that covered Castiel as he sank into the depths of the lake, one more fallen angel. Dean tells the rest to pack up, caravan preparing to travel to the next town, but while they do he only stares at the surface of the water—barely a ripple to indicate what had just happened there—until his brother touches his shoulder and tells him they’re ready to move on.
